An Irondequoit man accused of preying on women online and raping them was convicted Wednesday, Oct. 23.
Michael Chess, who is also known as the "Backpage Rapist" was found guilty of five counts of first-degree rape. Police say Chess raped at five women during a one-year period from September 2011 to September 2012.
Investigators say he met all of them on a website called "Backpage," which has also been connected with prostitution. Officers say he raped the women before robbing them.
Chess faces up to 50 years in prison. Chess will be sentenced on Nov. 27.
