Rochester senior righthander Brittany Grage has been selected as the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III Pitcher of the Week by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. She is a resident of Pittsford and an alumna of Pittsford Mendon High School.
Grage threw back-to-back shutouts as Rochester defeated Skidmore, Rensselaer and Union to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs. After a 5-0 win over Skidmore College in round one on Thursday, Grage threw a three-hit shutout with six strikeouts and no walks against RPI in the winners’ bracket Friday morning. On Saturday, she allowed four hits with three strikeouts in a 5-0 win over Union. The victories gave Rochester its second consecutive Liberty League Championship in softball.
The back-to-back shutouts gave her 20 for her career. She is Rochester’s career leader in that category, breaking a tie with Beth Ameno (19 shutouts, 2006-09).
In addition, Grage was selected as a co-winner of the Merle Spurrier Award as the Outstanding Female Athlete over the last four years. She shared the honor with Lauren Bailey of the women’s swimming and diving team. Bailey earned six All-America honors in the last two years.
