Hong Wah Chinese Restaurant, 1802 Penfield Road, Penfield, received the Top 100 Chinese Restaurant in the U.S.A. for Overall Excellence — 2015 award on Jan. 23 at the 12th annual Top 100 Chinese Restaurants Awards Ceremony in Flushing.

The local restaurant has been inducted into the Chinese Restaurant Foundation’s roster of awarded restaurants.

The award marks Hong Wah’s eighth consecutive year that the restaurant has been recognized with top honors at the annual event.

Hong Wah Chinese Restaurant was opened in July 2007 by owners Vicky Shi and Kevin Zheng. The Chinese menu includes Hunan, Szechuan, Cantonese, Mandarin and Thai dishes.

The competition, an annual event that presents the best Chinese cuisine to the American public, is open to all Chinese restaurants in the U.S.

To be eligible for recognition, restaurants are judged via public voting, a screening by a mystery diner who is sent to nominated restaurants, past culinary awards, online commendations and testimonials and an advisory panel of food critics.

Nearly 47,000 Chinese restaurants exist in the U.S., according to Chinese Restaurant News. Winners are published in the Top 100 Chinese Restaurants Dining Guide.
