The Pittsford Sutherland High School girls varsity soccer team recently won the Monroe County Division Two Championship and earned high rankings in Class A and New York State.

“This year has been amazing for the squad so far,” said Head Coach Adam Palumbo. “We finished the regular season number two in Class A and ranked 14th in New York State. Offensively, we scored goals and moved the ball around very well. Defensively, we didn’t give up many scoring opportunities, allowing just seven goals throughout the year. My coaching staff and I contribute our success to our senior leadership and the team’s ability to play for and with one another.”

Sutherland ended the regular season with a 2-0 shutout over Greece Olympia High School. Grace Allen and Annie Hanna scored unassisted goals.

Sutherland also recently beat Honeoye Falls–Lima High School 2-1 on a goal by Elle Pestorius assisted by Allen. Pestorius assisted Jess Aldred, who scored the winning goal with less than two minutes left in the game.

In the match against Brighton High School, Emma Saubermann assisted on both goals for the 2-1 win; one goal from Allen was scored off a corner kick from Saubermann and the second by Megan Hanna.

The match against Greece Athena High School ended 1-1 following a goal from Pestorius.

During Sutherland’s Senior Day celebration, the Knights shut out Our Lady of Mercy High School 1-0 with a goal from Allen. Before the game, the team recognized seniors Annie Hanna, Mara Smith and Emma tenHoopen.

Sutherland will play Greece Olympia in the Class A sectionals.
