Resident recognized for 20 years of service
Harry Doty, of Greece, is one of four volunteers recently recognized by Flower City Habitat for Humanity for contributing 20 years toward increasing homeownership and affordable housing to families in Rochester.
Doty is a member of the hammer and saw crew, Cabinet Shop co-founder, electrical crew and volunteer recruiter.
The ceremony was held at the Gateway Garden and four new saplings were planted in honor of each volunteer. This city garden is maintained by FCHH, and is the home of the Brian Kimble Memorial Gazebo and the Roger Cross Memorial.
Lauren Wittman begins Army National Guard career
Spc. Lauren Wittman, of Rochester, recently completed New York Army National Guard basic combat training and advanced individual training. Wittman will begin training with the Company C, 1st Battalion, 171st Aviation.
A ceremony marked the completion of the National Guard Recruit Sustainment Program, a preparatory training program providing recruits with training, lessons and skills for initial military training. The soldiers will now serve as part-time citizen soldiers.
