Penfield residents receive Jeff Crane Preservation Award
Penfield residents Bridget Marsh and Malcolm Mark Nulton recently received the Jeffrey S. Crane Preservation Award at Penfield’s Historic Preservation Board’s Penfield Historic Preservation Appreciation Day.
Marsh was recognized for overseeing the rehabilitation of a residence at 1750 Penfield Road. The house, which was built circa 1890, has been restored to honor its past and reclaim it prominence along Penfield Road.
Nulton received the award for his significant restoration of 1759 Penfield Road. He will live on-site and operate a jewelry store. The property is the former convent for St. Joseph’s Church.
“Historic preservation revitalizes neighborhoods, fosters local pride and maintains community character while managing growth,” said Tony LaFountain, Penfield town supervisor. “The Penfield community, founded in 1810, has a long tradition of valuing its historic character. The Historic Preservation Board, a group of resident volunteers led by Joan Belgiorno, is committed to its work to honor and preserve Penfield’s past. The Jeff Crane Award makes preservation of the past a contemporary priority.”
The award was established in 2007 to recognize individuals who have cared for Penfield’s past through the preservation of a structure of historic significance. Jeffrey Crane was the co-owner of Mark’s Pizzeria. He and his brother, Mark, restored Penfield’s original 1843 Methodist church.
