The mall entrance near Macy's was closed as of noon on Friday due to a police situation. Police say someone shot at a car in the parking lot at the Greece Ridge Mall. They say this was a targeted attack and the general public is not in danger.
The Greece Police Department has announced that they have arrested 20-year-old Chad L. Cole of Rochester in connection to the Friday shooting at the Mall at Greece Ridge Center.
According to authorities, Cole has been charged with two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and one count of reckless endangerment. All counts are felonies.
Cole was to be arraigned in Greece Court sometime Friday night.
Police were on the scene at the mall for reports of shots fired outside the mall. Officers were on the northwest side of the mall, in the area of Macy's. Investigators blocked off that section for the investigation.
Police said they were called to the mall around 10:45 a.m. after someone fired a handgun at a car with people inside. Police say the victims drove away; officers don't believe anyone was hit by the gunfire. However, officers were able to detain a person they believed fired the shots.
Officers say there is no danger to the public. They also say they believe it was a targeted shooting -- not a random attack. The entrance near Macy's is closed.
