As some residents might have seen in the newspaper, on Dec. 26 there were two men that were arrested in Webster because they failed to have a peddler’s permit as they went door to door for solicitation.
In the town of Webster all peddlers must obtain a peddler’s permit from the Town Clerk’s Office. The application fee is $100 for each company, $75 for each person for a three month period, and $30 for each additional month per person. There is also a waiting period after applying for a permit while a police background check is completed on the applicant.
Peddlers are asked to display the permit on their person in a visible manner when going door to door. If a peddler is found to be soliciting without a permit, a report should be made to the police by calling 9-1-1. We encourage you to call if you have any questions about the peddler coming to your door.
Exemptions to the above include Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, church groups or political groups who do not need to have a permit. However, we strongly suggest that parents accompany their Boy Scout and Girl Scout when going door to door.

Beginning in 2017, the Town Clerk’s Office will be listing active peddler permits with expiration dates on the town web site, As of today there are no active peddler permits on file at the office and no door-to-door solicitation should be happening in Webster right now legally.
