Daniel Pipes, a Middle East scholar, will speak at 7:30 p.m. April 25 at Congregation Beth Sholom, 1161 Monroe Ave., Rochester.
Pipes is known for his syndicated column and his appearances on network news broadcasts. The Rochester lecture is titled “The Israel Paradox: A Villa in the Jungle.”
“Israel is a success story with few parallels, turning a barren land into a military, scientific and cultural powerhouse — about which I will provide new, original information,” said Pipes. “Yet its many achievements notwithstanding, the country lives under a unique barrage of threats. I will reconcile and explain this paradox and offer a policy recommendation for the U.S. government.”
Pipes’ last appearance in Rochester was in 2007.
The Leon Katzen Memorial Lecture Series is endowed by the Katzen Family Foundation and Lacy Katzen. The purpose of the lecture series is to bring visiting scholars to Rochester each year during Israel’s Independence Day to speak on issues of importance to supporters of Israel.
Admission is free. For information: 585-473-1625.
