Piano faculty members from Hochstein School of Music and Dance will perform “Celebration of the Piano VI” at 7 p.m. May 4 in Hochstein Performance Hall, 50 N. Plymouth Ave., Rochester.
Faculty members include Maria Arreaza, Paula Rodney Bobb, Yi-Wen Chang, Doleen Hood, Willie LaFavor, Gary Palmer, Lourdes Santiesteban-Mora and Joseph Werner.
Solo piano highlights will include Scherzo Op. 12 by Sergei Prokofiev, Moritz Mozkowski’s Caprice Espagnol, “Lilacs” by Sergei Rachmaninov, Ernesto Lecouna’s La Comparsa, Air from Edvard Grieg’s Holberg Suite, Bach’s Prelude in G minor and selected Debussy preludes.
The concert will feature J. Strauss’s “On the Beautiful Danube” for one piano, four hands; “Waltz” from Dave Brubeck’s Jazz Ballet and Delaney’s “Cuando la Tarde Languidece” for two pianos, four hands; selections from Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite for two pianos, eight hands; and Franz Schubert’s “Marche Militaire” in D Major for four pianos, 16 hands.
Aram Khachaturian’s Sabre Dance for eight pianists, arranged by Hochstein adult student Tom Acquaviva, will end the performance. This year’s concert this year will be held in memory of Acquaviva’s late wife, Dawn, who was a strong supporter of Hochstein’s piano program.
Tickets at the door cost $5 each or $10 per family. Current Hochstein students and families can attend for free. A reception will follow the performance.
