Pittsford Crew, now in its 20th year, will celebrate this milestone with events coinciding with its annual Pittsford Regatta on May 26-28.
Alumni are encouraged to participate in an open house and gathering on May 26. Competing teams will provide a weekend of racing through Schoen Place. Commemorative merchandise will be for sale during the Regatta near the Department of Public Works building along the canal, and a listing of the events can be viewed at pittsfordcrew.org/20th.html.
Founded in 1997 by Richard and Ceil Feins, Pittsford Crew has provided middle and high school students in the region the opportunity to experience the sport of rowing.
A private club that is not supported by the schools, Pittsford Crew accepts everyone without cuts or tryouts and offers teamwork, competition, sportsmanship and fitness. A detailed history of how Pittsford Crew evolved from nearly 40 students practicing at the Genesee Waterways Center to almost 150 rowers housed out of the boathouse and indoor rowing facility across from Lock 32 can be found at spark.adobe.com/page/nfkdN1j7E9BAv.
In addition to their competitive season, programs are offered throughout the summer for middle and high school students to experience the sport of rowing. Learn-to-Row, Learn-to-Scull and Modified Sculling are open for registration and can be found at pittsfordcrew.org.
