In response to a recent letter to the editor, the writer expressed his disappointment in Michael Tantillo for supporting his first assistant, Jim Ritts, as district attorney. No need to “throw mud” at our DA. The DA position is not a political one, even though we have to vote along party lines for the primary in September. The fact that Ritts was appointed as a Republican demonstrates the DA’s Office has been free of politics under Tantillo.

We Ontario County residents have the utmost respect for Tantillo. He has brought integrity to the office and has exemplified the highest ideals and standards of public service during his long career.

Ritts has worked as a prosecutor in his office for 18 years. He is a man of tested ability, sound judgment and fine character. The Ontario County DA’s Office will continue to be in safe and capable hands under his direction.

His reputation has earned Ritts the endorsement of the New York State Police Investigators Association, Canandaigua Police Benevolent Association and Geneva Police Department Union.

Our community, our county would welcome Ritts as our newly elected DA. We know he will maintain the integrity and standards set by his predecessor.

Mr. and Mrs. John Baker
