Rochester Association of Performing Arts Family Theatre will kick off its 2017-18 season with “A Year with Frog and Toad: The Musical” on Sept. 30-Oct. 15 at Kodak Center Studio Theatre, 200 W. Ridge Road, Rochester.
The musical, based on the children’s books, will follow Frog and Toad as they swim, rake leaves, go sledding and learn life lessons. The two best friends will celebrate and rejoice in the differences that make them unique and special.
Hector Manuel and Doug Dohr lead the cast in the title roles under the direction of Eric Vaughn Johnson.
Manuel, of New York City, recently appeared RAPA’s “The Wild Party.” He currently teaches classes for RAPA’s School for Performing Arts.
Dohr will make his RAPA debut after graduating from The College at Brockport as a leading figure in the theater department.
Hunter Ekberg, Abby Kate Herron and Jenna Owens fill out the cast as the snail, mouse and turtle.
All performances are approximately an hour in length plus intermission. Children can meet the characters after each performance with photo opportunities and autographs.
RAPA Family Theatre will develop a sensory-friendly performance program specifically geared toward audience members with autism and special needs. Frog and Toad’s sensory friendly performance is set for 4:30 p.m. Oct. 1.
RAPA Family Theatre will host character lunches between all Saturday performances. Families will eat lunch with the characters at Kodak Center Colonial Dining Room. The menu includes ribbit fingers, hoppity pizza and swamp punch.
Character lunch tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for children. Tickets do not include a theater performance.
Tickets to “A Year with Frog and Toad” cost $20 for adults, $18 for seniors and students and $10 for kids. A 20 percent discount is available for those who purchase “A Year with Frog and Toad” in a season package with “The Gingerbread Man” and “Treasure Island.”
