Billy the Shih Tzu was allegedly stolen from a porch in the North Winton neighborhood in Rochester this week, put on Craigslist, and then sold. Luckily, the dog owner was able to track the sale and retrieve his dog. The police are still investigating.
Billy the Shih Tzu was stolen from a home in the North Winton neighborhood in Rochester this week, put on Craigslist, and then sold.
It’s a wild story. Bryce Miller says he woke up Monday morning and his dog was no longer on the front porch. He called police right away and filed a report, but he and his neighbors did their own investigation.
He checked craigslist and low and behold there was an ad for his dog. The ad listed the Shih Tzu for $150, and said the owner was moving and couldn't take the dog with him.
By the time Miller called the number on the ad his dog Billy had already been sold.
Miller says now he doesn't feel comfortable leaving his dog on the front porch.
Bryce Miller, lives in North Winton Village: "It definitely gives an unsafe tone to a prosperous neighborhood where people take advantage of having a quiet safe place to live, North Winton Village is an extremely safe place to live and we do not have a lot of crime issues, especially with our animals being taken so it's definitely an eye opener."
Miller got his dog back. The number listed on the Craigslist ad belongs to a Rochester man who claims he found the dog wandering down the street.
When that man was questioned, police say he had another dog in his possession. No word on whether that dog was stolen too.
Investigators collected fingerprints at Millers home to help them find out for sure who stole his dog.
