Fairport Field Hockey held a breast cancer awareness game against Hilton High School on Oct. 3.
Back in August, the junior varsity and varsity Fairport Field Hockey teams held their annual car wash. The teams elected to donate a portion of the car wash proceeds to the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester. The mission of the coalition is to provide support to those touched by a diagnosis of breast cancer, to make access to information and care a priority through education and advocacy and to empower women and men to participate fully in decisions relating to breast cancer.
President and Executive Director of the Breast Cancer Coalition Holly Anderson was at the game to accept a check from Fairport Field Hockey in the amount of $250.
The field was decorated with pink balloons that each player wrote a message to a loved one that has dealt with breast cancer in some way. The players were outfitted in pink jerseys and socks for the game. Balloons were sold to the fans for them to write their own messages to loved ones.
After the game, players, family and fans gathered on the field and launched their balloons.
