Book Discussion Group: 7 to 9 p.m. on Nov. 16. Penfield Librarian Kim Catalanello hosts the monthly Book Discussion Group meeting. This month’s theme is “A Poetry Emporium.” Copies of the poems will are available at the circulation desk. No registration is required.
Teen Tuesday: 2:30 to 4 p.m. on Nov. 21 and 28. For grades nine through 12. Meet up with old and new friends to relax after school, play video games, enjoy free snacks and participate in other social activities. Registration is not required. Special activities include Mad Hatter’s Tea Party on Nov. 21 and Mystery Theatre on Nov. 28.
Life in the Past Lane: History Along the Highways of New York State: 2:30 to 4 p.m. on Nov. 19. Step into the 1800s to explore the engineering marvels of the Erie Canal and its influence on the development of cities and the women’s rights movement. Tour homes, presidential sites and carousels visited by Lisa Wemett and Terry Mulee in their travels. Registration is required.
Thanksgiving Day closing: The Penfield Public Library will be closed Nov. 23, Thanksgiving Day, and will close at 5 p.m. on Nov. 22.
Practice ACT: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 22. For grades 10-12. Participants can get a good idea of how they might score on the actual ACT by taking and scoring this practice test, proctored by Chariot Learning. Bring No. 2 pencils, a calculator and a snack. Wear comfortable clothing. Registration is required and is limited to 45.
