Greece students won’t be without warm coats this winter, thanks to the generosity of Greece Central School District employees and the community.
Members of Greece Teachers Association’s Social Justice Committee collaborated with firefighters from Ridge Road Fire District and Barnard Fire Department, Greece Police Department, Greece Administrators and Supervisors Association, Greece United Support Staff and Greece Rotary Club to purchase $16,000 worth of coats, hats and gloves, enough to outfit 400 elementary school students from across the district.
Special coat distribution events enabled identified students to select a coat, hat and pair of gloves for free. Students at West Ridge Elementary School were invited to tour a fire truck that was parked on-site for the ceremony. Similar coat donation ceremonies occurred at each of GCSD’s 11 elementary schools.
The Greece program, now in its third year, is part of Operation Warm, a national initiative that provides new winter coats to millions of children throughout the country.
