Rochester Association Performing Arts and Greece Performing Arts Society recently partnered to bring back the Young Artist Competition for students in the Greater Rochester area.
The competition will run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Dec. 9 at Greece Arcadia High School, 120 Island Cottage Road, Rochester. Participants must complete an application by Nov. 27.
Only Greece students were involved in this annual event for 40 years. Now, applications are open to all elementary, middle and high school students in the Greater Rochester area as well as RAPA’s School for the Performing Arts.
Competitors can perform in one of three categories: classical voice, instrumental or musical theater. Each category will be separated by minis, grades 3-5; juniors, grades 6-9; and young adults, grades 10-12.
The young artists will compete for gift certificates, cash prizes and scholarships, and will perform in a public recital in January 2018.
The contest will be decided by 11 judges comprised of Greece school teachers, RAPA team members and other community performance art professionals: Jeff Andrews, Brian Bohr, Jimmy Boorum, Chiao-Wen Cheng, Diane Chevron, Kapil Dass, Dean Davis, Adele Fico, Nicolette Hart, Tierney McLean and Vince Salvadge. Judges will give competitors feedback on their performance, strengths and areas to improve.
Registration costs $25. Call (585) 234-5636 or visit greeceperformingarts.org for information.
