The Fairport Lady Raiders finished second with 334 points at the 2017 Class A Sectionals.
In all three relay events, the Lady Raiders qualified for the upcoming NYS Championship meet which will be held at Ithaca College on Nov. 17 and 18. In the 200 medley relay, the team of Grace Chen, Jenna Windheim, Megan Palmer and Becky Park finished second with a time of 1 minute and 48.08 seconds. In the 200 free relay, the team of Park, Grace Kanaley, Sarabeth Hewa and Lauren Brady finished third with a time of 1:40.31; and in the 400 free relay, the team of Chen, Palmer, Kyla Guilfoil and Brady finished third with a time of 3:36.39.
In the 200 IM, Chen placed second, 2:08.61; Palmer finished fourth, 2:10.11; and Windheim finished 10th, 2:17.02.
In the 200 freestyle, Brady finished eighth, 1:58.32; and Piper Miller finished 11th, 1:59.92. In the 50 freestyle, the team had three top finishes including Park in sixth, 25.16; Kanaley in seventh, 25.17; and Hewa in ninth, 25.39.
In the 100 butterfly, Fairport had three swimmers place in the top 16 including Palmer in third, 58.83; Kanaley in fifth, 59.87; and Madeline Keller in 12th, 1:06.04.
In the 100 freestyle, three swimmers scored points for the team including Guilfoil in eighth, 54.88; Park in 10th, 54.85; and Hewa in 16th, 57.
In the 500 freestyle, two swimmers placed in the top 16 including Brady in fifth, 5:16.77; and Miller in seventh, 5:22.79. In the 100 back, Chen placed second, 56.38; and Guilfoil placed third, 59.32.
In the 100 breaststroke, Windheim placed fifth, 1:10.43; and Keller placed 13th, 1:14.41. Fairport diver Natasha Petereit achieved a score of 375.35 in the Monroe County Diving Invitational and placed 10th among 28 divers.
The Fairport team members who will be swimming at the NYS Championship event next week include Brady, Chen, Guilfoil, Hewa, Kanaley, Palmer, Park and Windheim.
Fairport’s 2017 recipient of the sportsmanship award was Senior Sydney Cardona. Chen was recognized as the Division I Swimmer/Diver of the Year. Chen and Cardona are seniors at Fairport High School and are co-captains of the Fairport varsity squad.
