The Pittsford Mendon High School cross-country varsity teams competed in the Section V Class B Championships on Nov. 4 on a 5K course at Wayne High School and earned two Section V titles.
The girls’ team dominated 11 other Class B teams by scoring 33 points, compared to second-place Honeoye Falls-Lima High School’s 96 points, and earned a spot in the New York State Championships. In a race of 87 girls, Madelyn Rose MacLaughlin’s fourth-place overall finish led the Vikings to victory. MacLaughlin was followed by teammates Ellie Anstrom in fifth, Maggie Casey in seventh, Julia Tomonovich in eighth, Chloe Erdle in ninth, Anna Schriefer in 13th and Sarah Winfree in 15th. In the merged classes results, the Mendon girls placed first for all of Section V against 50 other schools, regardless of classification.
By scoring 50 points to Brockport’s 78, the Mendon boys’ team captured their sixth consecutive Section V Championship title and a trip to the New York State Championships. Against 12 other teams, the Vikings were led to victory by third-time individual Section V Class B Champion Nathan Lawler. He was followed by teammates Sam Lawler in fifth, Jimmy Smith in eighth, Matt Queiroz in 12th, Colin Murphy in 24th, Max Serling in 36th and Ben Rosero in 43rd, in a race of 93 boys.
