Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra will continue the “Harry Potter” Film Concert Series with “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in Concert” on Jan. 11-12, 2019, in Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre, 26 Gibbs St., Rochester.
As with “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in Concert,” RPO will perform John Williams’ score live while the film plays in high-definition on a 40-foot screen.
The program will be part of the RPO Pops Series for its 2018-19 season, which will be announced on Jan. 30, 2018, during the free season preview concert. Subscription packages that include tickets for “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in Concert” will be available on Jan. 31, 2018, with single tickets going on sale in July 2018.
The “Harry Potter” Film Concert Series kicked off in June 2016 with “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.” It is scheduled to include hundreds of performances across more than 35 countries through 2018.
“We are thrilled to present the next program in the ‘Harry Potter’ Film Concert Series,” said Jeff Tyzik, RPO principal pops conductor. “The excellent films, combined with John Williams’ incredible music played live by our world-class orchestra, make these concerts great events for the RPO and Rochester audiences alike.”
In “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,” cars fly, trees fight back and a mysterious house elf pays Harry a visit to warn him of what lies ahead this year in the world of wizardry. This year at Hogwarts, spiders talk, letters scold and Harry’s own unsettling ability to speak to snakes causes his friends to doubt him. It’s a year of adventure and danger when bloody writing on a wall announces “The Chamber of Secrets has been opened.”
This film concert series was created by CineConcerts in partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products. Creator and producer Justin Freer will conduct.
“The ‘Harry Potter’ film series continues to be a once-in-a-lifetime cultural phenomenon that delights millions of fans around the world,” Freer said. “It is with great pleasure that we introduced for the first time ever an opportunity to experience the award-winning music scores played live by a symphony orchestra, all while the beloved film is simultaneously projected onto the big screen. This will be another unforgettable event.”
