Rochester’s Fast Forward Film Festival is accepting film submissions for the 2018 short film event through Feb. 26.
The film festival has submission categories for local Rochester adults and youth ages 17 and younger. Festival staff doubled the cash prizes this year for juried award winners.
Now in its fourth year, the festival unites local first-time and veteran filmmakers to tell their story and perspective on the environment, with the goal of raising environmental awareness. The Fast Forward Film Festival annually celebrates unique voices in the community, and values creative storytelling about a thought-provoking environmental point-of-view.
There is a five-minute time limit, which helps even the playing field for first-time makers who may never have used film as a platform for storytelling and encourages creative thinking and innovation. Selected filmmakers range in age, with the youngest being 7 years old with their film created on their smartphone.
Topics in past years ranged from recycling to beekeeping, the Paris Climate Agreement and pollution prevention. The jury includes award-winning filmmakers and environmental experts.
This year’s program will be announced in March. Tickets go on sale in January.
Three winners in the adult program will each receive a $2,000 award, and one audience choice winner will receive a $1,000 award. For the youth program, three winners will each receive a $1,000 award and one audience choice winner will receive a $500 award.
There is no fee to submit a film. Visit for information.
