The flu season has claimed a total of 607 confirmed Monroe County cases since the start of the flu season. This is the first death reported.

The death was recorded in the county's flu report for the week ending Dec. 30 and posted on the Department of Public Health's website.

The person was between 50 and 64 years old. The county's report does not provide any other information about the person.

For the week ending Dec. 30, the county reported 242 laboratory-confirmed cases and 66 hospitalizations.

For the season, which began Oct. 1, the county has a total of 607 confirmed flu cases.
