Thousands of people took to the icy waters on Sunday to help raise money for the Special Olympics annual fundraiser.

Thousands of people took a cool dip at Lake Ontario Beach Park Sunday for a special cause.

The 18th annual polar plunge was in honor of the Special Olympics, giving "freezing for a reason" a whole new meaning.

People from across the area wore a wide variety of clothing including bikinis, superhero outfits, winter gear, and much more all to take the chilly dive.

The largest chapter in New York State, the Rochester chapter raises about 300 thousand dollars annually for the Special Olympics.
