Voters in the Wayne Central School District approved school building upgrades on Tuesday.

The measure passed 426-211.

Some voters considered voting against the capital plan to push school leaders to make changes to school security.

The halls of Wayne Central schools have cracks on the walls and on the floors covered up to keep students from tripping.

Work would have been delayed if the vote did not pass.

Critics of the project questioned why more money isn't going directly to security. Others argued the vote will affect students and compromise the infrastructure of the building

Work will include upgrading doors, adding emergency lighting and upgrading access controls to all buildings.

The school district will also hold a safety seminar on Monday evening where you can come and hear directly from school leaders and local law enforcement about what is being done when it comes to school safety.
