Webster Thomas High School’s varsity cheerleading team is celebrating a successful season, highlighted by a Section V championship top-three finish in New York State.
On Feb. 24, the 15-member team competed for the Section V cheerleading title and placed first among 12 Division 1 small schools. The Titans posted a score of 95.1 to beat Canandaigua’s score of 93.3 putting the lady Titans in first place and qualifying them to compete in the NYSPHSAA state championship in Onondaga. The Titans also swept the division awards, with coach of the year honors going to Michelle Byam and the Nancy Saxton Leadership Award presented to Webster Thomas senior Karlie Padilla.
On March 3, the Section V champion lady Titans traveled to Onondaga to participate in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association’s state cheerleading championships. Cheer teams competed for titles in five divisions and Webster Thomas’ team placed third in Division 1 small schools with a score of 88.65. The sportsmanship award was presented to Webster Thomas senior Paige Chaput.
