Select members of the Pittsford Mendon High School indoor track and field team competed in the state qualifier Feb. 23 at Rochester Institute of Technology.
In this meet, athletes in the same section compete against one another regardless of class — school size.
In the 3000-meter run, Madelyn Rose MacLaughlin placed sixth. The Vikings’ 4x400 meter relay team of Taylor Sampone, Ashley Sampone, Sanaa Wade, and Lexi Herman earned fifth place. Chloe Engin won the 1500-meter racewalk. Lindsay Fluman placed eighth in the shot put and ninth in the weight throw.
On the boys’ side, Anthony Ren earned sixth place in the 55-meter hurdles. In the 3200-meter run, Nathan Lawler was the individual champion, Sam Lawler placed third, and Jimmy Smith placed eighth. In the 1600-meter run, Nathan crossed the finish line in fifth place and Smith in 19th place.
The New York State Indoor Track & Field Championships were held at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on March 3. Engin, a junior, placed eighth in the 1500-meter racewalk. In the 3200-meter run, Nathan placed seventh, and Sam earned 25th place.
