The Women’s Foundation of Genesee Valley recently held its 12th annual Purse for Change auction in support of its mission to promote economic self-sufficiency for women and girls through grant making, education and advocacy.
The event at Temple B’rith Kodesh featured 148 purses from designers such as Louis Vuitton, Versace, Kate Spade and Coach. Overall, the event had more than 400 attendees and raised more than $100,000 for the foundation.
Proceeds will help expand grant awards and education initiatives, such as the Girls’ Initiative Program, which helps more than 500 girls each year overcome challenges, stay in school and set career goals.
With the help of donors and sponsors, WFGV has awarded over $1.3 million since 1994 to help women in the Rochester community become independent and self-sufficient while supporting their families.
