The Brigham Young University Ballroom Dance Co. will launch the Northeastern U.S. Tour of its current show, “Swing ‘n’ Sway,” at 7 p.m. on May 1 at Kodak Center, 200 W. Ridge Road.
“The BYU Ballroom Dance Co. hasn’t performed in Rochester for at least 20 years, so this is a rare opportunity,” said Fairport’s Kevin Lane, chapter head of the BYU Alumni, Cumorah New York Chapter, for which the performance is a fundraiser. “The fact that my wife Karen and I met in a ballroom dance class at BYU makes it even more special for us.”
“Swing ‘n’ Sway” is a show that presents ballroom dance in a theatrical environment with a contemporary point of view. Directed and produced by BYU Professor Curt Holman, its choreography segues from romantic waltzes to rhythmical sambas.
Tickets for the one-night-only, family-friendly performance are available at tix.byu.edu, and range from $18 to $25. Discounts are available for youth groups, $18 tickets for $15; and groups of 10 or more, when purchasing $25 tickets. Audience members are invited to meet members of of the company after the performance.
