Journey Christian Church, 3955 Mount Read Blvd., Rochester recently made new additions to its pastoral staff.
Jake Buss, of Rochester, joined the staff in 2014 as worship leader. His role expanded to full-time associate pastor in October 2017. Besides leading the music ministry and preaching on occasion, Buss oversees small group ministry, leads the young adult ministry and serves as liaison and coordinator to ministries that do not fall under the direct jurisdiction of the lead pastor.
Buss graduated from Waynesburg University in Pennsylvania with a desire to serve the church, and was involved in a church-plant in Brick. He most recently worked as a support professional for Heritage Christian Services.
“To serve for the purposes of God has been the hardest and most humbling work of my life, but I have found no greater joy than to experience the presence of God while serving the people of God, equipped with the power and truth of God,” Buss said. “Therefore, I aim to carry out this calling until my dying breath or until Christ returns.”
Dennis Hobbs, a Missouri native, joined the staff as youth pastor in January. After college, Hobbs attended Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis.
“I love the Gospel and how sinners can be made right with God and have eternal joy in his presence because of Jesus’ death and resurrection,” Hobbs said. “My passion is to see young people — and all people — come to know the love, grace and power of this truth, and learn how to live in light of it.”
