The board of trustees and staff of Penfield Public Library would like to thank the Friends of the Penfield Public Library and its acting president, Mary Maley, for hosting the annual Volunteer Appreciation lunch Friday afternoon, June 1, in the Ruth Braman Room of the library. This year’s theme was “Penfield Public Library Volunteers Rock!” Also assisting Mrs. Maley were Friends’ officers Nancy Anstadt, Ellen Garfinkel, Janet Flanagan, Gary Richardson, Diane Meyer, Diane Robbins and Carole Pepe. Rosey Vitale, owner of Rosey’s Italian Cafe in Penfield, provided a classic Italian buffet, which was attended by Penfield Town Supervisor Tony LaFountain, town board member Linda Kohl and town of Penfield Facilities Department staff members Wayne Fisher and Joe Lane. In total, 36 volunteers, three library board members and nine staff were present.
Penfield Public Library volunteers provide service to the library in a variety of ways, including organizing and conducting the annual Friends’ Used Book Sale, delivering books to shut-ins, tending the library’s plants, creating materials for displays and programs, mending books and other materials, assisting with library publicity archive maintenance and organizing the public information bulletin board. In addition, there are special ad hoc projects throughout the year that benefit from volunteer input.
A cake celebrating the library’s amazing volunteers was provided by Wegmans. This year, each volunteer who attended the luncheon received a booster card that included specific offers from the following Penfield businesses: All Star Pizza, Don’s Original Restaurant and Pub, Fairfield’s Bar and Grill, Pontillo’s Pizza, Rosey’s Italian cafe, Salvatore’s Old Fashioned Pizza, What’s ‘Ur Scoop and Wickham Farms. In addition, George’s Restaurant supports the library’s volunteers. This event recognizes the many ways in which volunteers support and enhance Penfield Public Library and its service to the community. The library is deeply grateful for their dedication.
