The Harley School recently received a $1.5 million gift from Nancy and Larry Peckham earmarked for a new on-campus wellness center.
The groundbreaking kicks off construction for the school’s new Peckham Wellness Center slated to open in January 2019.
Peckham Wellness Center will include a 5,035-square-foot-facility with cardio equipment and weights; an improved pool area with energy-efficient windows, new bleachers, more space for team and spectators and a trophy display; a multipurpose room for yoga, dance and stretching; and locker and team room renovations.
“The Peckham Wellness Center will allow Harley students to choose from an even wider variety of activities and new training opportunities for our athletes,” said Peter Mancuso, athletic director. “We are so grateful to the Peckhams for helping to make this 20-year dream come true for our school.”
“We have seen firsthand the positive results that come from student participation in athletics,” Larry Peckham said. “The Harley School’s outstanding teachers both inspire and build lifelong skills for all of its students. We want to enhance their ability to do great work by helping to provide a wellness-focused facility that takes what is possible to the next level.”
“We want to make sure Harley is around for our grandchildren and great-grandchildren and everyone’s grandchildren,” Nancy Peckham said. “By investing in physical education at Harley, we are demonstrating our commitment to one of the elements of Harley’s mission statement — promoting physical and mental fitness. Our vision is to help provide this kind of education for generations to come.”
“This gift stretches far beyond physical fitness,” said Ward Ghory, head of school. “The new wellness center will allow our future leaders to build upon friendships and continue to boost self-confidence with opportunities to work with outstanding coaches. We are grateful to the Peckham family for its dedicated support to The Harley School.”
Nancy and Larry Peckham are long-time Harley parents.
