SWBR recently named Steven Fernaays, of Williamson, and Kristin Purdy to its board of directors.
Board members are responsible for implementing corporate procedures and controls, as well as formulating overall business plans, operations, market objectives and strategies. The board includes the SWBR president and six members elected by shareholders for a three-year term.
Fernaays, who was promoted to principal earlier this year, joined SWBR in 2009. He spent majority of his career designing higher education places such as labs, classrooms and collaboration spaces that enhance student experiences. His clients include Nazareth College, Cornell University, Monroe Community College, Alfred State and University of Rochester.
He earned his Bachelor of Architecture degree from Syracuse University.
Purdy is a project architect in the firm’s education studio with a focus on higher education projects, including the Nazareth College Jane and Laurence Glazer Music Performance Center set to open in the fall. As sustainable design manager, she is responsible for the U.S. Green Building Council LEED certification process, particularly in higher education.
In addition to being involved with the AIA and CSI boards, she has worked with the Women in Architecture program through the AIA, the ACE Mentor program and volunteered with Lollypop Farm. Purdy started at SWBR as an intern, and joined full time in 2007 after graduating from University at Buffalo with a Bachelor of Science in architecture.
