Governor Andrew Cuomo is fighting for health care protection for transgender New Yorkers Cuomo's office said in anticipation of the federal government's rollback of a key provision of the Affordable Care Act.

The governor has directed the State Department of Health to issue regulations on health care providers.

"They are now planning a roll-back on a President Obama healthcare protection which would allow healthcare companies to discriminate on the basis of gender identity which means they could discriminate against transgender," said Cuomo. "We say again in New York, no how, no way. I am signing a regulation today that says 'I don't care what the federal government says, you do not discriminate."
