A primary for voters enrolled in the Democratic Party takes place Tuesday in several local congressional districts.

In the 23rd Congressional District, five candidates will be on the ballot. The 23rd covers all or parts of 11 counties including all of Steuben and Yates along with the eastern part of Ontario County. In Ontario County, the district covers the towns of Manchester, Hopewell, Phelps, Seneca, Gorham, Geneva town and city, along with the village of Naples and the town of Naples east of Route 21.

The 23rd candidates are: Linda Andrei, of Tompkins County; Max Della Pia, of Tioga County; Ian Golden, of Tompkins County; Tracy Mitrano, of Yates County; and Eddie Sundquist, of Chautauqua County. Mitrano will also appear on the Women’s Equality line with an option for those enrolled in that party to vote for Mitrano or write in a candidate.

The primary winner will be on the November ballot to challenge U.S. Rep. Tom Reed, R-Corning.

In other local congressional primaries, Democrats in the 24th Congressional District, which includes Wayne County, will pick a challenger for U.S. Rep. John Katko, R-Syracuse. Dana Balter and Juanita Perez Williams are on the ballot.

In the 25th Congressional District, Democrats will have the pick of four candidates to fill the seat that had been filled by Democrat Louise Slaughter of Fairport who died March 16. The district includes most of Monroe County. On the ballot will be Assemblyman Joe Morelle of Irondequoit; Brighton Town Council member Robin Wilt; former television journalist Rachel Barnhart; and Rochester City Council Vice President Adam McFadden.

Polls will be open Tuesday from noon until 9 p.m.
