Greenlight Networks, a broadband service provider, recently announced it is expanding its fiber optic network to the west side of Greater Rochester.
Greenlight is now accepting orders in 26 new Greenlight districts in the town of Gates.
“We’re excited to begin the process of expanding our fiber optic network to Gates,” said Mark Murphy, president of Greenlight Networks. “We have seen a great deal of interest and enthusiasm west of the Genesee River, and we can’t wait to connect the residents of Gates that have been waiting patiently for our service.”
According to The Wall Street Journal, the addition of a fiber connection to a home can increase the home’s value up to 3 percent. A recent survey by the Fiber Broadband Association found that residents will pay about 8 percent more to rent an apartment with a fiber connection. In addition, the study found that a reliable broadband connection was listed as the most important amenity by residents when choosing an apartment or condo.
Greenlight worked with several departments within the town of Gates during the construction planning process to help expedite expansion into Gates. The company plans to announce additional expansion plans throughout the summer.
“Greenlight Networks’ entry into the Gates market allows residents a choice on competitively priced ultra-high speed, broadband services,” said Mark Assini, Gates town supervisor. “We are happy for our neighbors in Gates and thrilled to welcome Greenlight to our community.”
“I am excited to welcome Greenlight Networks and their dedicated high-speed fiber internet service to the town of Gates,” said Steve Tucciarello, town councilman. “Access to high-speed internet is not only critical to the success of our local businesses, it is vital to our children’s education and our community’s quality of life.”
Gates residents can place their order through Greenlight’s website. The Greenlight districts that reach their order goal fastest will be first for construction of Greenlight’s fiber optic internet service. Greenlight expects to start construction in several Greenlight districts in Gates in the third quarter of 2018.
The company now serves residential and small business customers in Brighton, East Rochester, Fairport, Henrietta, Irondequoit, Penfield, Pittsford, Rochester, Webster and West Henrietta.
