Thirteen students earned college scholarships from the Rochester Chapter of the New York Credit Union Association.
Rochester Chapter credit unions, volunteer-driven and community-focused organizations, join together to award the scholarships.
The scholarships are given to high school seniors with plans to attend an accredited college in the 2018-19 school year. To be considered for a 2018-19 college scholarship, each applicant had to be a member in good standing of a credit union that is part of the Rochester Chapter. Applicants also had to submit an academic transcript and test scores and show an outstanding record of community service. Additionally, each applicant was required to submit an essay focusing on the one community service activity he or she found most rewarding or was the greatest benefit to the recipient(s) as well as how the experience exemplifies the credit union philosophy of “People Helping People.”
Applicants were also considered for the Rochester Chapter’s Sam Gaudino Service Scholarship Award for demonstrating outstanding long-term commitment to community service, contribution and involvement.
