Blackfriars Theatre, 795 E. Main St., Rochester, will present “The Rocky Horror Show” on Oct. 26 through Nov. 11.
This ‘70s cult classic will star Ed Popil/Mrs. Kasha Davis as Dr. Frank ‘n’ Furter, along with Mark Brummitt (Narrator), Dan Howell (Rocky), Kit Prelewtiz (Magenta), Danielle Raymo (Janet), Abby Rice (Columbia), Edward Rubenacker (Brad), J. Simmons (Riff Raff) and Jason Tortorici (Eddie).
Jordan Bachmann, Philip Detrick, Lexi Gleichauf, Tina Hoffman, Emily Putnam and Elizabeth West comprise the ensemble. The production is directed by Danny Hoskins, artistic and managing director, with music direction by Andy Pratt and choreography by Janine Mercandetti.
“The Rocky Horror Show” features the songs “Hot Patootie,” “Touch-a Touch-a Touch Me” and “The Time Warp.”
“One of the most exciting things about bringing ‘The Rocky Horror Show’ to Blackfriars is finding creative and original ways to not only meet the expectations of the iconic rock musical, but also to turn the familiar story on its ear,” Hoskins said. “‘Rocky’ will feature a great deal of new and unique technical wizardry and theatrical magic that has never been seen on the Blackfriars stage before. We’re challenging ourselves to bring a very special and one-of-a-kind spin to this campy classic.”
One of these spins is the inclusion of public figures playing the role of the Narrator for some performances, such as Bill Valenti, of Trillium Health; Norma Holland, of 13WHAM News; Pat Rivers, of Warm 101.3; and Assemblyman Harry Bronson, D-138th District.
The production’s artistic staff encourages the many call-outs and moments for audience participation associated with the “Rocky Horror,” but the throwing of toast, rice, water and other perishables onto the stage will be prohibited. Information about permissible props and etiquette is available online.
Show times are 8 p.m. on Oct. 26, Nov. 2-3 and Nov. 10; 7 p.m. on Oct. 27; 2 p.m. on Oct. 28, Nov. 4 and Nov. 11; 9 p.m. on Oct. 31 and Nov. 9; and 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 1 and Nov. 8.
