Is this the time of year you look forward to? It is for me. I’m talking from my church, Messiah Lutheran Church. It starts in November with Thanksgiving baskets and goes until Easter.
Messiah Lutheran Church does Thanksgiving baskets that help people who can’t afford to do dinner on Thanksgiving Day. These baskets will be assembled on Friday, Nov. 16 and delivered on Saturday, Nov. 17.
The next thing is Operation Christmas Child (this helps children overseas) and then we put up what we call the Angel Tree (this helps needy children locally).
Messiah Lutheran Church knows that there are kids that like to shop for Christmas gifts for their family, so we have a Christmas workshop for them and this year it is on Friday, Dec. 7. Once again, we are inviting all interested children from 4 to 10 years old to come to Messiah Lutheran Church from 5 to 7 p.m. to make and wrap Christmas gifts for their families. This is a free event and open to the public, so all you need to do is call the church office to register at (585) 865-1866, ext. 2.
We need to know how many people to plan for as we need to buy supplies ahead of time. We have some pretty neat things for you to make for your parents or other family members. We’ll have lots of wrapping paper so you can take your gifts home to be unwrapped at Christmas. If you can keep the secret, your family will really be surprised. There will be pizza, ice cream and drinks for you so you won’t get hungry.
Kids! Go ahead and invite your friends, they just have to register at (585) 865-1866, ext. 2. This event is open to the public.
Parents! Think of it as a few hours where you might want to shop or have dinner out while the kids are with us. We really look forward to seeing you there.
Another reminder for anybody interested is Messiah Lutheran Church does a free lunch twice a month on the first and third Saturdays of each month year-round. There is a rumor that in November there might be some real turkey sandwiches. Mark the dates down: Nov. 17, Dec. 1 and Dec. 15.
My wife and I have been with Messiah Lutheran Church for many years, and it always amazes me that every year we look to offer more and more for those people who are in need.
If you are looking for a church to attend on Christmas, we have two services on Christmas Eve, 7:30 a.m. and 10:30 p.m., and Christmas Day at 10 a.m.
Please know that you don’t need to be a member; we welcome all people. Hope to see you there.
