Pittsford Mendon High School varsity cross-country competed at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Championships against the state’s best Class B runners at Sunken Meadow State Park, Long Island, on Nov. 10.
The Mendon girls’ team earned fifth place against nine other Class B teams. Out of 113 runners, senior Maggie Casey led the Vikings with her 32nd place finish. Following Casey were senior Anna Schriefer in 49th, eighth-grader Riana Heffron in 55th, freshman Olivia Lucia in 57th, senior Julia Tomanovich in 63rd, senior Rachel McCarthy in 77th and senior Livia Betti in 89th.
Three Mendon boys competed as individuals in the Class B race. Out of 114 runners, junior Sam Lawler placed eighth, junior Jimmy Smith placed 33rd and senior Matt Queiroz placed 42nd.
