On Wednesday, the Bureau of Criminal Investigation arrested 48-year-old Lynn M. Hall of Castile, NY for attempted murder, attempted assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

Police say Sheriff Gregory Rudolph was on his way to work Wednesday morning in an unmarked police vehicle when Hall allegedly began to tailgate him while flashing his lights. Then, police say Hall pulled in front of Rudolph, got out of his car, and tried to fight the sheriff. Police also say Hall attempted to grab the sheriff's weapon before managing to get him on the ground and threaten him with a knife.

During the fight, two civilian newspaper deliverers, along with an off-duty state trooper, stopped to help Rudolph.

Hall has been arraigned and remanded to the Livingston County Correctional Facility on no bail.

Rudolph was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The criminal investigation by New York State Police is still ongoing.
