Irondequoit police have charged a Rochester man, Aron T. Araya, 21, with third-degree robbery and fourth-degree grand larceny in connection with an incident at the ESL bank at 518 E. Ridge Road, Irondequoit this past Saturday morning, Nov. 26.

According to a statement issued this afternoon by Investigator Mark Bean of the department’s criminal investigations unit, a man entered the bank about 10:40 a.m. Saturday, got into a teller line, and while waiting approached another customer who was in line and forcibly stole an envelope that she was holding.

The woman's envelope contained cash and checks that she was waiting to deposit. The man then ran out of the bank. He was chased by other customers.

A witness outside the bank noticed the man being chased and followed him to a nearby apartment complex, Bean said. The witness also phoned 911 with the information.

Irondequoit officers responded to the area and located Araya, who was subsequently charged.

Araya was arraigned in Irondequoit Town Court and bail was set at $3,000 cash or $6,000 bond. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for this Wednesday, Nov. 30, in Irondequoit Town Court.
