Those living in Finger Lakes region can voice their comments at a public hearing Oct. 22.
The public is urged to weigh in on the state’s plan to protect open space. On Wednesday, the state Department of Environmental Conservation and Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (State Parks) released the proposed 2014 State Open Space Conservation Plan for public comment.
The plan guides how funds will be spent through the State Environmental Protection Fund for open-space protection. The draft addresses a wide-range of areas that include: partnerships with tourism promoters; improving land access for sportsmen and women; and creating universal access points to urban centers.
Public comments on the draft plan will be accepted from Sept. 17 until Dec.17 and a series of workshop/public hearings will be held across the state from Oct. 21 to Oct. 23.

In Region 8, which covers Ontario County and neighboring counties, on Oct. 22 a workshop will take place from 1- 2:30 p.m., an afternoon hearing from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m., and an evening hearing from 7- 9 p.m. The events will take place at Region 8 headquarters, 6274 East Avon-Lima Road,Avon.
