CDS Monarch is continuing its efforts to raise awareness for Autism during National Autism Awareness Month. According to the Centers for Disease Control, more people than ever are being diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). While the CDC says it believes this stems from a combination of an increased number of individuals diagnosed, as well as a broader definition of ASD, much is still to be learned about the developmental disability.

The most recent data from the CDC reflects that one in 68 children are affected by ASD, and boys are five times more likely to be affected. Although there is currently no medical detection or cure for autism—according to the CDC—groups around the world are working to bring about more awareness for ASD.

“National Autism Awareness month is an important time of year for us both as an organization and a provider of services,” CDS Monarch President/CEO Sankar Sewnauth said. “As the number of confirmed cases of ASD continues to rise, we are constantly working to come up with new, innovative ways to raise awareness. CDS Monarch offers a comprehensive Autism Skill Building service in an effort to both treat the symptoms of ASD as well as help raise awareness within our community.”

CDS Monarch’s Autism Skill Building works with individuals affected by ASD by providing both support and peer interaction. Participants develop social skills, learn how to identify and cope with stress, as well as express and manage their own emotions.

CDS Monarch will also be raising awareness by hosting its sixth annual Autism Awareness Fair Friday, April 24. The free event is open to the public and will feature various games and activities in an attempt to bring the community together to make this disability more well known.

CDS Monarch assists People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, Veterans, and Seniors to live and thrive in their communities, by delivering high-quality, personalized life planning and transition support.
