Local organizations, alongside Flower City Habitat for Humanity, recently participated in a ceremony to raise the fourth wall of a home being built on Orange Street.
During the June 30 event, Tammy Lofton and her three children thanked everyone involved for their help in making their dreams of home ownership a reality. The event was part of the Unions Giving Back project, which helps build and fund a home for a local family.
Participants included the Federation of Social Workers IUE/CWA 81/381 and IUE-CWA Locals 495 and 323.
Lofton works as a full-time bus driver and attends educational classes in the Flower City Habitat Homebuyer Program. She will purchase the home through a non-profit mortgage.
“We are honored to be partnering with Flower City Habitat for Humanity in support of the Lofton family,” said Federation of Social Workers IUE/CWA 81381 President Peg Capuano. “This project is yet another example of the rich tradition of unions being actively involved in helping others and giving back to their communities.”
