The Irondequoit Chamber of Commerce recently named Donald E. Wood as its Person of the Year.

The award will be presented to Wood at the chamber’s Annual Awards Dinner at 6 p.m. Jan. 22 at the Rochester Yacht Club, 5555 St. Paul Blvd., Rochester.

Wood has spent much of his adult life serving the Irondequoit community in many ways, from being a school bus driver to volunteering with schoolchildren. He has served Irondequoit Police Chief Tantalo and his predecessor Chief Boyan. Wood has been a volunteer with Irondequoit Crime Prevention Coalition and the Advanced Citizens Police Academy as well as being captain of the Parkside Neighborhood Watch for over 20 years.

The Beautification Awards honorees in Irondequoit are:

Best New Building: I-Square, Michael and Wendy Nolan.
Best Renovation: Whispering Pines Miniature Golf, Jim and Greg Papas.
Best Repurposed Building: Chipotle/Starbucks, 1495 East Ridge Road.
Best Landscaping: Genrich's Garden Center, Florist and Greenhouse, Deborah Genrich.
