HOPEWELL — An Ontario County Jail inmate was charged with assault after being accused of punching another inmate in the face with a closed fist last week.
Ontario County sheriff's deputies charged DaShawn J. Sanders, 25, with second-degree assault, a class D felony, after an investigation into the alleged incident that reportedly took place shortly after 8 p.m. Dec. 28.
The alleged victim suffered injuries to his eye and lip, according to deputies.
Sanders is behind bars at the Ontario County Jail for allegedly passing counterfeit bills at area stores.
For his latest charge, the 25-year-old was arraigned in Hopewell Town Court and returned to the Ontario County Jail without bail.
He will appear in Hopewell Town Court at a later date.
