The Pittsford High School hockey teams will play their seventh-annual games to benefit cancer Jan. 23 at the Gene Polisseni Center, Rochester Institute of Technology, 51 Lomb Memorial Dr., Rochester.
The Pittsford Panthers will host the Victor Blue Devils, with the junior varsity game beginning at 5 p.m. and varsity game at 7 p.m.
The seventh annual Pittsford Panthers Pink the Rink hockey games are the culmination of season-long cancer awareness fundraising efforts. The Pittsford junior varsity and varsity teams will be sporting pink jerseys and socks as a show of support in the fight against breast cancer. Many of the jerseys have initialed patches on the back, and are sponsored in memory or in honor of a loved one.
All net proceeds from the Pink games will benefit the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester. Over the past six years, Pittsford hockey has donated over $32,000 from these Pink the Rink games.
Pittsford Hockey continues in the effort to make these games an annual community event. Student involvement in the event has stretched beyond the hockey team and included high school students selling presale game packages and bracelets, and many local businesses and individuals contributing time and sponsorship funds.
In addition to the games, there will be special activities which include a chuck-a-puck contest, the Rochester Institute of Technology pep band, pink spirit wear sales of T-shirts and bracelets and a special appearance by the Pittsford Panther. Admission is $5 for both games. For more information, visit pittsfordhockey.org.
