International mural artist Fernanda Gonzalez Latrecchiana, of Buenos Aires, Argentina, will spend a month in Fairport and the Finger Lakes, leading to the 10th Global Mural Conference and Expo being held Sept. 18-24 at the Woodcliff Hotel & Spa, 199 Woodcliff Drive, Fairport.
Latrecchiana arrived early to begin her mural painting at the Fairport Music Festival held Aug. 27. Guests were able to watch Latrecchiana paint the mural on Evolon — a strong, lightweight composite material which can be applied to any exterior or interior wall.
The Erie Canal Heritage Mural Expo is a feature of the Global Mural Conference where several local and international artists will paint large murals under an outdoor tent over six days. During the expo, the public can watch the artists in action as they paint from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 19-22 and from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 23.
Each mural artist painting at the expo will be sponsored by donations from businesses, organizations or private donors from the community.
The Fairport Rotary will sponsor Latrecchiana, and she will be painting a mural inspired by the Rotary’s dedication to children’s literacy programs. The mural also will include sights Fairport is known for, such as the Erie Canal.
