Fox Rules recently won the $50,000 Genesee Valley Breeders’ Stakes for the third consecutive year at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack in Farmington.

The horse earned the victory over Empire Dreams by a narrow margin that was too close to call without the photo finish. The M. Anthony Ferraro trainee completed the 1 1/16-mile distance of the event for New York-bred older horses in a final time of 1:45.02. He was guided by Pedro Rodriguez.

The 7-year-old gelding, owned by Langpap Stables, continued his success at his home track, where he was voted FLGR Horse of the Year in 2014. He has now won 12 of his 15 FLGR starts, including four stakes triumphs. The $484,101 earner had a victory in the $160,800 New York Derby in 2012.

Fox Rules scored his 15th career win and paid $13, $4.80 and $2.20. Empire Dreams returned $3.70 and $2.20 for second. Crackerjack Jones was third and paid $2.10.

New York-bred 2-year-olds will take the center stage in the richest race on this season’s stakes calendar. The New York Breeders’ Futurity is scheduled Oct. 1. The six furlong dash has an estimated purse of over $200,000.
